Labor Day 1998 Trip

We paid a visit to Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Steamtown in Scranton, Galitzin, Cresson, and Sand Patch over the Labor Day weekend.  We covered much ground and had a very good time.  We had good weather until the morning of Labor Day.  I had decided we would drive from Altoona to Sand Patch, railfan a bit, and then drive home to Michigan.  As we neared Johnstown the severe thunderstorms they predicted hit and stayed with us until Sand Patch.  It cleared somewhat in the afternoon, I caught a TOFC westbound out of the tunnel, but when we started back North toward home we ran right back into the storms again.
